Happy Memorial Day Monday!

Memorial Day Poems

Unlearned Lesson

Memorial Day
Of every year
The little valiant
Flags appear
On every fallen
Soldier's grave--
Symbol of what
Each died to save.
And we who see
And still have breath--
Are we no wiser
For their death?
~Dorothy Brown Thompson~
Flag Song

Look up, there's our flag!
We can count every star,--
And the red, blue, and white,
How lovely they are!
Floating high, floating wide,--
We can see it from far,
Our flag, it's the flag,
We can count every star!
In the sun, in the wind,
Do its bright colors shine.
O look at the flag,
It is yours, it is mine!
~Nancy Byrd Turner~
Our Flag

There are many flags in many lands,
There are flags of every hue;
But there is no flag, however grand,
Like our own Red, White, and Blue.
~Mary Howliston~
A National Moment of Remembrance On Memorial Day

That poem about where “poppies blow”
And, “the crosses, row on row”
Still rings true, these ninety years
After written, still brings tears.
We still have Dead, “amid the guns”
And lose our young and our loved ones
Those who lived, “short days ago”
Who, “felt dawn, saw sunset glow”.
In Flanders Fields, “the poppy red”
Still grow near where the blood was bled
They, “Take up our quarrel with the foe”
And still die for Freedoms that we know.
They pass, “The torch” to, “hold it high”
And not, “break the faith with us who die”
For they, “shall not sleep, though poppies grow”
Beneath all those, “crosses, row on row”
In Flanders Fields.

I Stand Before You

I stand before you all today
But not one eye can see my way
My time arrived, to leave this earth
A fact so planned, to every birth
It happened where I had to go
My torch for life was so aglow
I transferred while in uniform
Protecting freedom, through a storm
Should I resent I died for you
Not on my life, red white and blue
Please help my family through each day
Tell all my friends, try not to stray
And of the country I did love
Do think of me, through God above
Your memories, brought forth this day
Send love to us, who could not stay

My frugal tip is also to bring food from home not only because it's cheaper but it tastes better!.

UPDATE FOR BLOGGER- GFC is now working and I was advised to uncheck the remember me box when logging in to bypass the comment problem. As well as to change my commenting settings to pop-up window or full window because the embedded box selection is creating problems. It has worked for me and I hope it solves your problem too.
